Keep A Child Alive’s Black Ball

Yesterday I had the pleasure of hosting the Keep A Child Alive Gala Ball which was organized by the charity’s founders Leigh Blake and Alicia Keys. I was both thrilled and honoured to be invited to host an event which raises money for such a good cause, and boy did they pull out all the stops to get people’s attention.

A stellar cast of celebrities and performers all attended with the united aim of launching Keep A Child Alive in the UK, KACA helps children and families affected by HIV and AIDS in Africa and India.

Started in America, the charity has only been going for five years but in that short time have managed to not only raise awareness for the Aids epidemic in Africa but also millions of dollars to help save lives. Their motto is $1 a day saves a child’s life.

Alicia Keys (who wore a T-Shirt emblazoned with a picture of Barack Obama) performed, as did Annie Lennox, former child soldier Emmanuel Jal, Damian and Stephen Marley and Adele. The brilliant Jennifer Hudson gave a mind blowing performance of ‘You’re Gonna Love Me’ her Oscar winning ‘Dream Girls’ number; although the best part of the evening was seeing Alicia and Annie deliver a magnificent duet of ‘Sweet Dreams’.

I was also impressed to see Russell Brand and his stunning new girlfriend Teresa Palmer walking in - that girl has done the unthinkable in taming him! I’ve worked with Russell in the past and never thought I’d see the day he’d be both in a serious relationship and without his trademark bouffant. Teresa must have some serious powers of persuasion!

Other attendees included Kelly Rowland, Peter Andre, Mischa Barton, Sol Campbell, Jermain Dafoe, Kathy Lette, Leigh Francis (or Avid Merrion to most of us), Shaznay Lewis, Padma Lakshmi-Rushdie and many more.

It was a great night, I support the cause 100% and I’m thrilled to be part of it. If you’re able to, please get involved. Remember their motto; $1 a day saves a child’s life.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Much Love

June xxx
